On your own at the Butterfly House If your group was unable to schedule a visit to The Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House through our education programs, the following activities have been designed to help make your group visit to the Butterfly House meaningful and enhance the educational opportunities for your group. Patch programDon't you want to be bugged? Are you crawling for something new? Try The Butterfly House's Patch Program. Whether you are a Junior Entomologist (ages 7 and up) or a Beginning Entomologist (6 and under), we have an activity for you. Each child will receive a booklet to complete while visiting our facility. Find out what butterflies eat, or what would eat a tarantula. Use the colorful patch as a commemoration for your visit. This self-guided visit tour is a fun-filled hour. Please note that the booklet does not meet any of the badge requirements. The Patch Program costs $2.50 per child, in addition to the regular admission, and includes the booklet and patch. Each child should bring a pencil and crayons, markers, or colored pencils. The Butterfly House is located at Faust Park in Chesterfield, Missouri. Admission is $6.00 adults, $4.50 seniors 65 and over, $4.00 ages four to twelve, and free for children ages three and under. Group rates are available for ten or more paid admissions. The Case of the Dismembered CricketThe Butterfly House sends out an "All Points Bulletin" for Webelo Cub Scout Dens and Junior Girl Scout Troops. Bugs are committing capers and these mysteries need solving by Scout investigators. In this 90 minute program, observe the crime scene, collect the clues, and solve the case. Our program meets the requirements for the Webelo Naturalist badge and the Junior Science in Everyday Life badge. The programs will be offered on weekends only beginning in April, 2009. Pre-registration is required. Please call 636-530-0076, ext. 13 to register your den or troop. Scavenger huntYou can download this scavenger hunt (page 1 and page 2) and print it off for your students to take with them as they walk through The Butterfly House.
